Joys of motherhood

Today NYC  got the best of me.  The girls and I had plans to go visit Katie's bff down in Battery Park City.  When I woke up I saw the rain but was not going to let that get the best of us.  We were going to go despite the tears falling from the clouds.

We set out on our adventure.  I wore Elizabeth in my trusty Ergo carrier and Katie walked next to me holding my hand.  In our other hands we held umbrellas to help shield us from the rain.  By the time we actually walked to two avenue blocks to the bus stop, it was pouring.  I mean pouring.

After waiting for 10 minutes at the uncovered bus stop, our bus finally arrived.  Thankfully, it was not very crowded so we were able to find seats.  We had traveled about 10 blocks when Elizabeth suddenly threw up all over the both of us.  I was shocked and completely unprepared.  There is only so much you can do with baby wipes!

Much to Katie's dismay I decided we had to return home and forgo the visit with her bff today.  I exited the bus at the next stop and attempted to walk west one block so we could get on a bus that would take us home.  We walked maybe 10 steps when Elizabeth decided to empty her stomach all the way.  As if I wasn't covered enough in throw up, she finished me off.  Katie was still crying and upset because she wasn't going to see Emi.  We walked 10 more steps when the wind decided to take down Katie's umbrella.  Did I mention it was pouring because it was BAD.

So if you can, picture this.  A soaking wet mommy, covered in throw up, wearing a baby who is also covered in throw up and soaking wet as she cries.  Standing next to that mommy is a sobbing, dripping wet toddler holding a broken umbrella and the hand of a completely overwhelmed mommy.  We must have been quite a sight because a guy actually walked by and laughed at us.

Somehow I was able to get us all home without much more damage.  Katie and Elizabeth are sitting here playing with Mr. Potato Head while watching Annie.  I am sitting here and as I write this and I am not sure whether to laugh or cry.  I had such good intentions this morning!  Well, played, Mother Nature.  Well played.
