We Love Ice Cream

I recently purchased the ice cream maker attachment for our KitchenAid. This purchase has taught me two things.

First, I learned that Wife makes good ice cream. She makes really, really good ice cream. I mean, her ice cream is so good that I don't know if I can ever go back to store bought ice cream tubs.

Second, I learned that Katie loves ice cream. She really, really loves ice cream. I mean, she loves ice cream so much that I don't know if she will ever go back to eating a jar of baby food.

We're working on the hair thing (the picture is about a six weeks old - Daddy finally got around to posting it)

Passenger Airlines in 1939

What was it like to take a passenger airplane coast to coast 70 years go? What kind of sexist comments made their way into popular magazine articles in 1939? An issue of Popular Mechanics from back in the day explains what it was like. Read about it HERE.

This picnic would be a lot better if these puffs were easier to get to.

Katie Plays with Minnie Mouse

Recently, Katie has taken up a new activity. She throws her Minnie Mouse doll into the baby swing that we used to put Katie in. Katie will then spend long periods of time pushing the swing so Minnie can enjoy the ride. The most entertaining part. While we used to push Katie, we would clap our hands and say, "Yay!" to try to keep her happy. Katie does the same thing for Minnie has she swings.

On her way back to our apartment in the middle of the night after a day of travel - happy as can be

Katie's Newest Tricks

Over the last few days and weeks, Katie has figured out some new parlor tricks.

If we begin to clap or if we ask her to clap, she will start smiling and clapping.

If we say, "Yay!!!" she will also start to smile and clap.

If she hears music, she will start to dance.

If we blow her a kiss and make the noise, "Mmmuh," she will say, "mmmmuh" back to us.

If she feels like giving us a kiss, she will gently grab our hair (she's not all that gentle) and pull our cheek to her mouth to give us a "kiss."

If we say, "Give me a kiss on the cheek," and point to our cheek, Katie will put her lips where we are pointing on our cheek (and sometimes make the "mmmuh" sound).

Stan Van Gundy is the Man

Stan Van Gundy, the coach of the Orlando Magic, is a hoot. Here are a few snippets from an interview he did today with the Orlando Sentinel. For our more challenged readers, R stands for "Reporter," and SVG is Stan Van Gundy.

R. Your thoughts on all this free agency stuff?

SVG: It’s gotten ridiculous I think. It’s really I mean it’s almost like a parody of itself this whole situation now. Come on, an hour long? It takes 15 seconds to say I’ve decided to stay in Cleveland but we’ve got another 59 minutes and 45 seconds to, what? Promote LeBron James? As if we don’t do that enough.

R. Sign of the times, I guess.

SVG: It is a sign of the times. Unfortunately. It’s amazing that a guy as good as Kobe Bryant simply extended his contract with no real fanfare or anything else.

R. Kevin Durant did, too.

SVG: Yeah and Kevin Durant is more in the Kobe Bryant mode. You don’t hear Kobe Bryant and certainly not Kevin Durant talking about their brand. They don’t. I hear that from the other guys. I don’t hear those guys talking about their brand, they’re simply basketball players who want to be great players and win games. Not that those other guys aren’t great players and don’t want to win games. They do, but there’s also more to it. It’s not what I like. Other people, I guess, like it. I’m sure it will be a widely watched show tomorrow. It simply will not have me as a member of that audience.

R. Bosh and Wade had their announcement on ESPN. Said he’s joining Wade.

SVG: Well, he’s been following him around for two weeks like his lapdog. So that doesn’t really surprise me.

LeBron James will sign with...

So, LeBron will be getting a one hour special on Thursday night to announce what team he will sign with next season. Here's a few recent tweets:

"They should give Lebron 30 mins, then devote the other 30 mins showing Kobe watching at home, laughing hysterically."

"How does LBJ kill an HOUR? Opening monologue? Stupid human tricks? Musical act?"

"Maybe they should have Bosh decide as an undercard."

"Did Jordan ever call himself "Air Jordan" or did he allow us 2 call him Air? LeBron calling himself King James is a joke. We created monster."

"There will be a 5 minute statement from LeBron then 10 minutes of interviews! And then another season where he chokes in playoffs."

"After discussing with my inside sources, its confirmed that lebron will still have no rings after his press conference Thursday."

My Thoughts on NBA Free Agency

I have a few thoughts on the NBA free agency season that I thought I should share with the world. Here are my musings in no coherent order.
  • Amar'e Stoudemire agreeing to go to the Knicks is interesting. In interesting, I mean that I think it's a pretty stupid move by the Knicks. Sure, Amar'e is a legitimate all-star. But, now, the Knicks have a team with a power forward and...well, that's pretty much it. Yeah, they have a couple "pieces," but I don't see Amar'e as a guy you build a championship around. He's a guy who can lead a mediocre team.
  • The Amar'e deal is a thousand times better than the Joe Johnson deal in Atlanta. I think the rest of the NBA will spend the next several years laughing at the Hawk's expense. Yes, ATL will be very good next year, but not championship good. And in a couple years, that Johnson, that deal will be very, very bad (think Steve Francis bad).
  • I'm sorry to bring this up, but why do people think that Donnie Walsh so great at running a team? He wasn't exactly Jerry West in Indiana. Everyone acted like he was an NBA savior when he joined the Knicks. I suppose compared to Isiah Thomas he is. But the Knicks won't become an elite team under his watch.
  • If Lebron signs with the Knicks, I'll apologize to Mr. Walsh for my comments above.
  • Those clowns running the show in Minnesota make Donnie Walsh look like a genius. I'm stunned by the moves that the T-wolves have made in the last 13 months. At first, I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, but I'm passed that.
  • The new owner of the Nets is right about Lebron. If he signs with the Heat and wins a couple championships with Bosh and Wade, his "brand" will be diminished. I'd say ditto with Chicago.
  • I love the Lakers signing Steve Blake. Sure, he's just an "average" point guard, but we haven't had an average point guard in years.
  • Sticking with the theme above, I'm afraid Derek Fisher is pricing himself out of his Laker jersey. I love you D-Fish, but really, 10 million for two years? You're a great leader, but if you go to a team without Gasol and Bynum in the post and Bryant demanding a double (or triple) team you won't get your open looks anymore. Those open looks are the only reason you look adequate. Like I say, I really want you to remain on the Lakers, but if I'm Jerry Buss, I won't go beyond a 1 year 2.5 million dollar deal or a 2 year 4 million dollar deal. I realize that this is your last payday, so you want to sign the best contract possible. If someone else will throw more money at you, go ahead and take it, but you will diminish your legacy and your "brand" by doing so.
  • If Fisher decides to leave, I think the Lakers should try to sign Luke Ridnour. Sure, the Blake/Ridnour combo at the point won't be all-NBA at their position, but it would be a huge improvement over last season.
  • I've heard that Ridnour is willing to take 12 million for four years with the Lakers. If I'm Jerry Buss, I do that. Even if he doesn't work out, that's an asset that is a good trading chip. At least a decent trading chip.
  • Yo, Mike Miller. Jerry Buss doesn't play around. When he offers you 30 million dollars with a firm deadline for accepting the deal, you should have taken it. If you have any doubts about Dr. Buss' firm deadlines, go talk to Trevor Arizia or Lamar Odom. The Lakers treat their players great, but don't try to play hardball in negotiations with them. It won't go well for you.
  • Miller really would have helped the Lakers, so it's sad he's not signing.
  • The Lakers need one more point guard, a small forward and a couple backup big men. The next couple weeks will be interesting to see what they will do.
  • I'm open to trading Lamar Odom if we can get value for him. Value = Bosh.
  • Anyone want to trade for Luke Walton? What, there's not much of a market for an overpaid bench player with back problems and a bad contract? Shocking.
