Wandering around Central Park

Katie's Newest Food Adventure

We heard about a great little hole-in-the wall where we could get some great, unique food at a good price. This afternoon, we decided to give it a try (the afternoon meal referenced in the preceding sentence being midway between the time that families traditionally enjoy lunch and dinner, such meal shall hereafter be referred to as "Lunner"). The place that we visited for Lunner is a New Yorker's "secret" - it is supposedly always packed, but never with tourists. Best of all, it serves a type of food that Wife and I have never had before - African food (no, not "African-American food, "soul food," or whatever else you might be thinking - food from Africa). The place was packed (not a single empty table in the joint) and we were the only white people in the building. We also appeared to be the only ones who didn't speak some sort of African-dialect.

For Lunner, we bought a wide variety of dishes that the three of us shared. We then divided the food as follows: Katie ate the mild-spiced food; Mommy at the medium-spiced food; and Daddy is still sweating five hours later.

This afternoon, we learned that Katie loves African style chicken, lamb and goat. It was humorous to listen to all our new African friends coming up to us and remarking how surprising it is to see such a little girl dig right in and enjoy the food so much. I'm guessing they don't see a lot of 14-month old white girls eating goat in that establishment.

To sum up, the food was excellent, and we will definitely go back.

This was taken on one of the last days of the year that I get to wear a sun dress.

I can't afford me

When looking at a proposal today at work today, I realized something. I could never afford to hire me.

This afternoon, we ran into Bob Tuschman, the general manager of the Food Network and judge of the Next Food Network Star, in Bryant Park. As a huge fan of the Food Network, we thought this was a big deal.
Here is Bob's bio:

He played a key role in creating the highly rated block of cooking shows airing on weekend mornings and daytime afternoons.
