Where to Go to Get the Best Cheesesteaks in Philadelphia

For obvious reasons, you need to eat a cheesesteak when you visit Philadelphia. Every diner sells steak sandwiches, and every diner claims that theirs are the best, but where can you really find the best steak sandwhich?

The two biggest tourist traps for steak sandwiches are Pat's and Geno's (which are conveniently located right across the street from each other). While all the tourists go there, locals are near unanimous in agreeing that these places are not the best. Locals seems more willing to give the title of "best cheesesteak" to Jim's Steaks. Jim's is very good (we waited in line for 1 1/2 hours on Sunday afternoon to get the cheesesteaks pictured below). However, for our money, our favorite cheesesteak in Philadelphia was from Sonny's Steaks. It was very, very, very good. I think Wife almost cried as she ate it.

Spontaneous...that's just how we roll

On Friday night Katie was sound asleep and we started talking about what we should do for the long weekend. At about 11 o'clock, I suggested, "How about if we go to Philadelphia for the weekend?" To make a short story even shorter, twelve hours later we were at standing in Independence Hall. It's been a busy weekend filled with lots of history and lots of cheese steaks.

Yup. I'm still cute.

Two Realizations I had Today

1. You know you have become a New Yorker when you walk around Philadelphia and feel like you are visiting Mayberry.

2. You know you are the father of a toddler when your wife reaches for your hand and you offer her two fingers.

Funny Things Katie Did Tonight

Katie did a couple particularly humorous things this evening.

First, I was taking some pictures of Katie who was on the floor playing with her "computer." I began talking to Wife. As I talked, I lowered the camera. Katie looked up and saw that the camera wasn't focused on her. She stood up, walked in front of me to stand in front of where the camera was haphazardly pointed. She positioned herself in front of the camera and started gave a big smile and started striking her favorite poses. This kid understands cameras.

Second, Mommy put an electronic gadget on the nightstand next to her bed. Katie wanted the gadget. Katie went into the other room, picked up her rocking chair and carried it all the way across the apartment, set it down next to the bed, and climbed up on the rocking chair to get the gadget off the nightstand. This rocking chair is twice the size of Katie. Now that she has figured out how to carry it, she's carrying it everywhere she thinks a stool might be useful.

Whatcha talkin' 'bout?
