As soon as I read this story, I thought about writing a pithy line about organization. Then I began to consider how every law student will undoubtedly learn about this case for years to come (I'm absolutely certain I would have had a professor or two that drilled this incident into my head).
This news story is pretty entertaining and worth a read. The bottom line is that a $1.26 billion judgment has been entered against Pepsi because of disorganization/an administrative mistake. Needless to say, Pepsi is "scrambling to salvage the situation." Yeah, I'll bet they are.
Read the story HERE.
UPDATE: A news talk show discussed this news story and blamed the whole thing on an "activist judge" that hates big business. I think I threw up a little bit in my mouth. Seriously, you're going to blame the judge? Pepsi just didn't show up? This host was screaming that judge should have called Pepsi or given them an extension sua sponte. Yeah, that's how it works. Look people, if you get sued, you need to respond - even if the lawsuit is frivolous. You can't just ignore a lawsuit you don't like. (No, Pepsi didn't ignore the lawsuit because they thought it was stupid, but the talk show host seemed to actually be arguing that they should be able to).
