Finding Good Apples in the Big Apple
Another plus for New York City-the fresh produce. Who would have thought that we would be getting better produce in NY than we have in our previous cities, but it is truly outstanding here in Manhattan. Back where we last lived it was a little frustrating because the fruit and vegetables just seemed bland and flavorless. This is not the case here in NYC. A few days after we got here, Husband and I traveled to Union Square for “Green Market” (what they call their farmers’ market). To our surprise, it was a great experience. While I liked the great selections and cheap prices, Husband loved it because there were tons of free samples. Vendors were selling everything from fresh vegetables, meat, eggs and even homemade jams and breads. Even better were the prices! We walked away with a bag of corn on the cob, a couple pounds of tomatoes, a bunch of fresh carrots, and large bag of apples—all of that cost us just barely over three dollars. We decided that the Green Market would have to become a Saturday tradition for us. Husband had free samples (that were healthier than Costco’s) and we were actually able to put some great tasting, healthy groceries in our fridge.
